Meet our “Avengers Legales™” or “Legal Avengers™” of Poder Inmigrante:
Adelmo Enamorado
As a young child, Adelmo Enamorado migrated to the United States in the early 1980’s from Honduras along with his single parent in the hopes of better opportunities and freedom. His mother was able to adjust her status to a U.S. legal permanent resident under the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act. Shortly thereafter, Adelmo began his “adjustment of status” process with the assistance from Casita Maria – a non-profit organization that assisted and represented the immigrant community.
In late 1998, Honduras was struck by the second-deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record. The following year, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) was granted by the United States and opened the pathway for legal immigration status for Adelmo’s family and other natives from Honduras.
Unfortunately, many of his family members and friends were unable to apply for TPS during the initial registration period in early 1999 due to the excessive legal fees that attorneys were charging for this process. This situation ignited the beginning of Adelmo’s resolve and passion for immigration matters. He began by assisting family members and others that could not afford the attorney rates on their TPS legal process. A couple of years later in 2002, a missionary visiting his Christian church from Africa prophesied that Adelmo had a special calling and would be touching the lives of many in the world.
After several years of working with immigrants and local community leaders, Adelmo fulfilled his calling and founded Immigrant Advocacy of America dba Poder Inmigrante. In 2016, Poder Inmigrante was recognized and accredited by the United States Department of Justice. Since then, the non-profit organization has continued to serve as a beacon of hope and transformation for the immigrant community in the southern area of Dallas.
Through Poder Inmigrante, Adelmo has assisted immigrants from Mexico, Central America, South America, Africa, and Asia. He has embraced the idea that that “it takes an immigrant to fully understand the life of another immigrant and the many challenges and obstacles they go through to achieve the American dream.” When asked about the most satisfying part of his work, he replied “when the client receives a work permit, resident card; or naturalization certificate and shares a smile and tears of joy after waiting for years and even decades to finally be able to live freely in the United States.” This vision and record of success has emboldened Adelmo Enamorado to continue his “faith thru action” efforts of serving and advancing the lives of those immigrants that need his assistance.
